Performing Arts
Music
As befits a Cathedral School, King's has a fine musical tradition.
Music forms part of the School's curriculum from the Nursery Class to Year 9 (Removes). It can be studied at G.C.S.E. and A Level.
The Pre-Preparatory School
- In the Pre-Preparatory School, children can join the Recorder Club, or receive individual singing, piano, violin or cello lessons through the optional Saturday Morning School of Performing Arts, where Kindermusic lessons are also available for pupils of Year R.
- All individual lessons are taught by specialist peripatetic teachers.
Preparatory and Senior Schools
- In the Preparatory and Senior Schools, individual music lessons are available. Most orchestral instruments, piano, organ and singing lessons are available.
- The Preparatory and Senior School orchestras, choirs and the string, wind, brass, jazz, madrigal and other chamber groups give regular public concerts and recitals.
- All boy cathedral choristers are pupils of the Preparatory School.
Drama
The Pre-Preparatory School
- Pre-Preparatory School pupils can participate in speech and drama lessons through the optional Saturday Morning School of performing Arts, or join the dance/drama after school club.
- Pupils of the Pre-Preparatory School present both a nativity play in the Cathedral each year, and a Summer Concert featuring all forms of performing arts.
The Preparatory School
- Pupils of the Preparatory School present a variety of dramatic performances each year.
- Recent productions include 'Oliver', 'Resurrection Rock' and Homer's 'Odyssey'.
The Senior School
- Pupils of the Senior School also present a variety of dramatic performances each year.
- Recent productions include 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', 'The Odd Couple' and 'Arsenic and Old Lace'.
Dance
The Pre-Preparatory School
- Pupils can attend ballet classes through the optional Saturday Morning School of Performing Arts.
The Preparatory School
- Pupils can attend ballet classes or street dance/jazz classes via an after school club.
